Sleep apnea refers to a cessation or interruption of breathing during sleep. People who suffer from this condition have poor quality sleep due to an obstructed airway and reduced oxygen into their lungs. Sleep apnea may contribute to excessive daytime sleepiness, which has been linked to auto accidents. The condition can also trigger high blood pressure, heart attacks and stroke.
